Jean-Michel Carnus has been involved internationally in forestry research in France and in New Zealand, especially in relation with sustainable forest management of forest plantations.

He has a solid experience of European funded projects and research network management.

He is vice-chair of IUFRO Division 8 (Forest Environment) and of the EFI centre on planted forests.

He has participated in French scientific mission to New Zealand in 2004 to prepare the bilateral scientific cooperation programme "Dumont Durville" and in the EU delegation of DG research to New Zealand in June 2005 to represent the Forest Technology Platform.
